Cobourg welcomes you to holiday events

The Town of Cobourg has rolled out the welcome mat for a series of festive holiday events in the coming weeks.

Saturday is the final day for Santa to stop by the Victoria Hall Concert Hall (55 King St. W.) to welcome visitors between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for photo ops. And for those who want to check out the downtown afterwards, there is two hours of free parking until Jan. 1.

The Mayor and Council's Community Skate is planned for Monday, Dec. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Bowl Arena at the Cobourg Community Centre (750 D'Arcy St.). Admission is free, though donations of non-perishable food items for the Fare Share Food Bank are appreciated.

First Night returns Dec. 31 from 6 to 9 p.m., an evening of music and community spirit at Rotary Harbourfront Park (35 Albert St.). There will be skating on the outdoor rink (weather permitting) with music by a live DJ, as well as horse-and-wagon rides. An early New Year's fireworks display over the harbour will wrap things up at 9 p.m.

The Cobourg Lions Centre (157 Elgin St. E.) will host a New Year's Eve dinner and party, with the classic-rock sounds of Coup De Ville. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets for both dinner and dance are $30 plus service fee, available at the Experience Cobourg box office – cobourgboxofficeca

The Mayor and Council New Year's Levee is a traditional way to ring in the new year on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2 to 4 p.m. The Concert Band of Cobourg and the Wednesday Primary Choir provide the music to enjoy hors d'oeuvres, treats and refreshments by,. There will be face painting and a balloon artist for the kids, and the Cobourg Public Library will host a table with a gift-basket give-away and crafts activities. And don't forget to snap a shot to remember the day by in the photo booth.

And when you have the chance, enjoy the Christmas Magic light displays in Victoria Park, the bandshell and Rotary Harbourfront Park. The Victoria Park lights will be on display until Sunday, Jan. 4, while the Rotary Harbourfront Park lights will be on display until Family Day (Feb. 16).
