As it nears its golden-anniversary milestone of providing outstanding community theatre, Northumberland Players is first gearing up for the holiday season with Looped, the outrageous real-life drama of a Hollywood liar better known as the legendary Tallullah Bankhead, playing Nov. 14 to 30 at Cobourg's Firehall Theatre.

The Matthew Lombardo play is based on an actual 1965 recording session with the intoxicated actress, who took eight hours to perfect a single line from her final movie Die! Die! My Darling!

Bankhead's career spanned from silent movies to the '60s. Before there was Lauren Bacall, there was Tallullah Bankhead, known for her razor-sharp wit, smoky voice and unapologetic flair.

“She was bold, brilliant and impossible to ignore,” the announcement said - “a true icon who lived entirely on her own terms, dazzling audiences and scandalizing society in equal measure.”

Or, as she once said, “If I had to live my live again, I'd make the same mistakes. Only sooner.”

Looped is described as “a wild ride of wit, drama and showbiz clashes – all packed into one unforgettable afternoon in a sound studio.”

With one performance already sold out, tickets are going fast. You can get yours at nplay.ca/annie

And speaking of Annie, that is the presentation in store at the Victoria Hall Concert Hall by the Northumberland Players Youtheatre. This beloved musical is brought to you Nov. 29 and 30, and you can also get your tickets for this one at nplay.ca/annie

Which is also where you can get tickets for the traditional Christmas concert, Once Upon A Christmas on Dec. 5, 6 and 7 at the Concert Hall. The Safe Harbour Choir brings you almost a century of Christmas memories in timeless choral favourites, moving solos and duets, and a few surprises that capture the warmth and wonder of the season.

Looking ahead, mark your calendar for May 22 when Northumberland Players celebrate that 50th anniversary of community theatre at Victoria Hall, featuring the music of Toast. Tickets will soon be available at nplay.ca
