The Town of Cobourg advises both motorists and pedestrians that the train tracks crossing D'Arcy Street will be closed to both on Saturday for approximately two hours beginning at 11:30 a.m. to allow for the visit by the CPKC Holiday Train that's coming to town.
As well, D'Arcy Street will be closed between Kerr Street East and Spencer Street, with a detour in place.
As part of its 27th annual journey in support of community food banks across the US and Canada, the train is due to make a stop at 12:05 p.m. at the Columbus Community Centre (232 Spencer St. E), and everyone is encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item or monetary donation for the Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank.
The brightly decorated train stage will feature live entertainment from Jade Eagleson and Teigen Gayse. As well, the Cobourg Lions Club will be on-site grilling $3 hot dogs and juice boxes (cash only), with all proceeds supporting Fare Share. And to make it a real party, there will be face painting for the kids and other fun family-friendly activities.
There will be parking on-site at the Columbus Community Centre, and everyone is reminded to dress warmly as this is an outdoor event.
Since its first journey in 1999, the CPKC (Canadian Pacific Kansas City) Holiday Train has raised more than $25-million and collected some 5.4-million lb. of food for community food banks.
