Ontario Power Generation is opening a new nuclear discovery centre in Port Hope as a way for the community and trades groups to ask questions and get information on the proposed Wesleyville nuclear facility.

Based on assessments from the utility, the site could host up to 10,000 MWs of new nuclear generation, making it the largest nuclear generating station in the world and providing up to 10,000 Canadian jobs, including 1700 locally.

Following the opening of the new discovery centre, officials are expected to continue exploration of the project, including consultation with area First Nations. Full development of the Wesleyville site is in the early stages and is expected to take many years to complete.
