A Cobourg woman is facing an assault charge, following an alleged altercation on News Year’s Day.

Police say at approximately 3PM, the victim of the assault allegedly approached the woman at a residential building on Division Street, accusing her of trespassing.

Authorities claim the suspect became violent before fleeing the scene.

She was arrested a short time later. Following the arrest, the woman apparently spat on an officer. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The accused was remanded into custody, pending a bail hearing.
