Elderly Colborne man dead in massive 401 crash Thursday. 15 vehicles involved

Northumberland OPP say a Colborne man is dead following a serious crash on Highway 401 Thursday, which closed the westbound lanes.
OPP say several vehicles were involved in the collision between Cobourg and Port Hope at approximately noon. As many as 15 vehicles were involved, including two tractor-trailers.
Four people were treated in local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Traffic was diverted during the investigation and clean up. That section of Highway 401 reopened just before 3 A.M. Friday morning.
In a second incident a family pet died after a three vehicle collision on County Road 28 Thursday morning. Authorities say just before 10 A.M. two vehicles sustained heavy damage and a third was in the ditch.
County Road 28 between County Road 9 and Boundary Road was closed briefly. Three people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries in hospital.
Lake effect snow hampered driving conditions in much of Northumberland County Thursday.
