New early morning VIA Rail train makes first stop in Cobourg and Port Hope

Commuters and other early morning riders caught the new Via Rail train 641 in Cobourg and Port Hope during its inaugural run Monday morning.

There hadn’t been an early morning or commuter train since Train 651 was cancelled at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. The new 641 train leaves Ottawa at 4:19 a.m. and stops in Fallowfield, Smiths Falls, Brockville, Kingston and Belleville while being scheduled to depart Cobourg at 7:35 and Port Hope at 7:44. It is scheduled to arrive in Toronto at 8:48 a.m.

At the Cobourg station Monday morning, Via’s director of government relations Denis Boucher was joined by Northumberland-Peterborough South MP Philip Lawrence, Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland and Port Hope Mayor Olena Hankivsky to mark the occasion.
