Hike, Bike and Bark is back

By Cecilia Nasmith

Ed's House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre Foundation is delighted to announce the return of the annual Hike, Bike and Bark for Hospice event, to take place October 1 in Cobourg's Victoria Park.

It's a one-day event designed to bring the community together to celebrate, remember and raise funds for Ed's House, with the focus on flexibility and fun.

You can participate as an individual, a family or a team, and you can choose your activity – hike, bike or walk the dog, on your choice of a one-kilometre or five kilometre course.

And being back in Victoria Park for the big day is a bonus. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hike, Bike and Bark events have been hybrid affairs that were nonetheless well supported and quite successful. Now that an in-person event is possible again, participants can collect their registration kits the day of the event – just sign in and register at 9 a.m. Each registration kit includes a snazzy T-shirt, a scrumptious cookie from Roda's Kitchen, and other goodies and surprises.

“This event holds a special place in our hospice-community hearts as a long-standing fundraising and awareness event,” Community Care Northumberland Chief Executive Officer Trish Baird said in the announcement.

“Supporting people and their families in the community who are facing a life-limiting illness is key to offering a full spectrum of hospice services.”

Since the opening of Ed's House in September 2020, the foundation has formed to support Community Care Northumberland's hospice services in the community – including the Palliative Care Community Team and Volunteer Hospice Visiting program that operates alongside the 24/7 end-of-life care provide at Ed's House, all offered at no cost to the client.

Organizers of this event extend heart-felt gratitude to signature sponsors Tina Hubicki and Lee Caswell of Bosley Real Estate Ltd., as well as their other community sponsors whose unwavering support fuels this important work.
