NHH Auxiliary retail operations solidly successful

By Cecilia Nasmith

With COVID-19 closures in the rear-view mirror, Northumberland Hills Hospital Auxiliary chair Selena Forsyth shared the group's Petticoat Lane success story at the hospital board's June meeting.

The little thrift store at 25 Munroe St., Cobourg, is setting an amazing track record, Forsyth reported. Over the past two months, there have been 11 days where sales handily surpassed the $1,000 mark. And most days, sale average $700 to $800.

She is also invited everyone to check out the Petticoat Lane display now up at the Cobourg Public Library, showcasing some of the especially valuable items they receive as donations. The display case holds an elegant silver teapot, a vintage timepiece, a lovely silver necklace and two classic tiny painted china plates known as “butter pats.”

They recently set aside a number of these items, consigned them to Colborne Auction and brought in $2,153.

“We are on our way to our '23-'24 NHH commitment,” Forsyth stated with confidence.

More good news comes from their other retail operation, the Little Treasure Shoppe, located just inside the main entrance at Northumberland Hills Hospital. Hit by COVID-19 closures and volunteer shortages (and, more recently, computer problems) the gift shop is making its way back. If you're at NHH in the near future, check out their raffle with a kitchen basket and a flower-and-garden tub as prizes. The draw will take place June 26.
