Cobourg introduces Spring Into Parking sessions

By Cecilia Nasmith

The Town of Cobourg introduces Spring Into Parking sessions to mark the launch of the 2023 Waterfront Season Parking Passes.

In light of questions that arose last summer, these sessions will see town staff set up in the lobby of Victoria Hall (55 King St. W.) from noon to 4 p.m. March 30 and 31 to sell the passes and answer questions, with more dates planned for April and May.

Waterfront Parking regulations come into effect each year on the Victoria Day long weekend and run through the Thanksgiving weekend. Last year, the town introduced the passes and implemented changes to waterfront-parking pricing. A total of 1,185 Resident Waterfront Season Passes were sold that first year, providing Cobourg residents with access to the waterfront all season long.

In February, following a staff report and an Engage Cobourg survey, council moved to continue the Waterfront Parking strategy for another year, with increased communication and education for residents.

The announcement included the current rates.

Daily Waterfront Parking Pass - $40 a day, good on all on-street and pay-and-display lot, except for the Charles Street lot (reserved for Cobourg residents only)

Resident Waterfront Season Pass - $40 for Cobourg residents and $20 for East Beach Area residents, good at all on-street and pay-and-display waterfront areas.

The East Beach area is defined roughly as the quadrant defined by King Street to the north, Bay Street to the south, D'Arcy Street to the east and Church Street to the west. In this area, use the daily or seasonal waterfront pass or the Honk Mobile app – hours of enforcement are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Overnight parking at the Cobourg waterfront is available only within the East Beach area.

Residents are encouraged to purchase their passes on-line at parking.cobourg.ca, and they are also available in person at Victoria Hall. Residents will be asked the license number and make of their vehicles, and will be required to produce photo ID. One pass is permitted per Cobourg residential address – residents can register up to two vehicles per pass, but only one vehicle can use the pass at a time.
