PACE talk looks at your pace of aging

By Cecilia Nasmith

November's edition of the Northumberland PACE Speakers' Series welcomes guest speaker Greg Macpherson for a virtual conversation on How to Slow Your PACE of Aging at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 30.

Macpherson – a pharmacist, biotechnologist and futurist – is founder of Science Research Wellness Laboratories, a next-generation nutraceutical company in Auckland, New Zealand.. His talk will be moderated by Dr. Anuja Sharma, a local internal medicine specialist and cofounder of IM Care. The talk will combine Dr. Sharma's interest in wellness with Macpherson's pharmacological perspectives on optimizing one's cellular health during the aging process.

His passion for overcoming health challenges began early in his career as a pharmacist. Over the last decade, he has spent thousands of hours researching cellular aging and meeting with global anti-aging experts to unpack the reasons our cells age.

His company recently partnered with the drug discovery company Insilico Medicine to harness Artificial Intelligence to identify natural products that modulate the aging process, and he became a published author with his 2020 book Harnessing the Nine Hallmarks of Aging, which simplifies the science behind why we age.

His Nov. 30 presentation will explore factors that play a significant role in expediting or delaying the process and answer such important questions as why we age, why some age slower than others, whether anything is proven to slow aging (and if so, by how much), how we can slow the aging of joints, skin, hearing and vision – and whether it is ever too late to do anything about aging.

As always, questions from the audience will also be addressed. These can be submitted by emailing mbhargava@imcare.ca prior to the talk or, time permitting, posed live during the event.

Since 2018, Northumberland PACE partners have hosted free PACE sessions on a broad range of health and wellness topics, consistently drawing large groups of community members with their own questions and perspectives. Each hour-long session consists of a 30-minute talk, a 20-minute question-and-answer period with the presenter(s) and a short moderator summary.

Pre-registration is required, with space limited to the first 300 to register. The event is hosted through Zoom, and attendees will be asked to log in five minutes prior to the start. You can register at www.pacetalks.com, where you can also find recordings from many previous talks prepared by student partners from Loyalist College.

Bring your questions, your suggestions and your experience, and join what is expected to be another informative discussion on a topic chosen by previous PACE audiences.
