Port Hope announces Day of Mourning closures

By Cecilia Nasmith

The Municipality of Port Hope will observe the National Day of Mourning on Monday to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with closures to some municipal buildings and facilities.

This decision also supports current Collective Agreement commitments, the announcement said.

The date coincides with Her Majesty's State Funeral and the end of the official period of mourning in Canada. Port Hope joins many other Canadian municipalities in observing the day – in this case with the closure of Town Hall, the Fire Administration Office, Development Team Office, Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Joint Operation Centre, Hope Transfer Station, Rural Works Yard and both library branches.

There will sill be transit service and crossing guards, and both the Town Park Recreation Centre and Jack Burger Sports Complex will be open for rentals and scheduled programs and activities.

The municipality invites members of the public to sign the book of condolences at the Town Hall during business hours until Sept. 30.
