CCC hosts OHL preseason game Sept. 23

By Cecilia Nasmith

Hockey fans should mark Sept. 23 on their calendars, when the Cobourg Community Centre will host the final preseason game for the Peterborough Petes against their East Division rival, the Kingston Frontenacs.

The announcement came Friday from the Town of Cobourg Community Services Division, saying the CCC will host the game in partnership with the Cobourg Cougars, West Northumberland Girls Hockey Association and Northumberland Minor Hockey.

The organizing committee is planning several exciting events to raise funds for minor hockey in Cobourg to help make Canada's sport more accessible.

Ticket holders will have the opportunity to participate in autograph signings and a community skate with Cougars players, team mascots and some OHL scratch players. As well, coaches from West Northumberland Girls Hockey and Northumberland Minor Hockey can sign up for a Coaches Clinic (for more information and to register, visit ccc.cobourg.ca).

Tickets will be on sale Aug. 9 through 15 on the Experience Cobourg website, after which they can be purchased in person at the CCC (750 D'Arcy St.). Priority access to tickets will go to Cobourg minor hockey families as well as Cougars and Petes season-ticket members. Ticket prices are $20 + HST for adults and $10 + HST for youth aged 12 and under.

The OHL announced a total of five pre-season Petes games, with three played outside of the community. In Cobourg, the Sept. 23 match-up against the Frontenacs will have a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.

The Petes are the oldest continuously operating team in the OHL, having won nine championships and one Memorial Cup over their 66 years. They have graduated more the 180 players to the NHL.
