Looking ahead to formulating plans for the reconstruction of County Road 64 in Brighton, Northumberland County is collaborating with the Municipality to seek public input on proposed improvements.
Also known as Prince Edward Street, County Road 64 is a primary route through Brighton, connecting to Prince Edward County and providing a north-south route for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists in its urban areas.
The road and the underground infrastructure of Prince Edward Street are nearing their end of life and require upgrades or replacement. Following the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process, a study is being prepared to develop alternatives and establish a preferred design. As part of the process, a public information session is being planned for Wednesday, July 27 where several potential improvements will be presented such as upgraded sidewalks, traffic-calming features, intersection upgrades and paved shoulders for cyclists.
The study will confirm the condition of the existing roadway and identify opportunities for improvements to safety, accessibility, and active transportation.
The proposed reconstruction work will extend from Elizabeth Street in downtown Brighton down Prince Edward Street to Harbour Street and along County Road 64 for approximately seven kilometres to Stoney Point Road.
You are invited to join in the conversation on July 27 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., when representatives from both county and municipality host the public information session. Draft plans will be presented where the public can comment on what they would like to see by way of improvements and help shape preferred alternatives for implementation.
