NPS Returning officer says there are problems with voter cards

By Robert Washburn

Voters in Bewdley and Cobourg may need to call the Elections Ontario office to get proper information following some problems identified by officials yesterday. Robert Washburn explains.

Northumberland-Peterborough South Chief Returning officer Ann MacDonald says there are problems with voter cards in Bewdley and Cobourg.

During an interview on the Daily Wrap Wednesday, MacDonald said several hundred voter cards that were supposed to be delivered in Bewdley were returned.

“So, folks from Bewdley are going to be looking for their voter cards and unfortunately they were returned by the post office. They have changed the address conventions,” she said. “We are not sure what happened but they all came back to us undelivered or undeliverable. So I'm so sorry for the folks in Bewdley, but please note that there is a voting location there and not only an advance poll, but also on June 2.”

But, there is no need to worry. The undelivered cards will not impact the ability of those voters to cast a ballot. MacDonald says as long as people bring some form of government issued identification with a picture and something with an address, those people will be allowed to vote.

Another problem is impacting voters in Cobourg, she added. The voter cards are missing information.

“The voter cards that came out in Cobourg do not give the advance poll information on those voter cards,” she said.

Cobourg voters can go to advanced polls at Northumberland Mall between May 21 and May 27.

MacDonald urges anyone who is not clear or has questions or wants more information to call Elections Ontario at the Northumberland Mall at 833-405-2633.
