March PACE Talk has post-COVID focus

By Cecilia Nasmith

The Northumberland PACE Talk series continues its 2021-22 season with a timely topic for March – How To Shift Our Focus Back to Prevention and Wellness As We Come Out of the Pandemic.

The March 16 talk will take place just five days after the two-year anniversary of the World Health Organization declaring COVID-19 a pandemic, offering a focus on ways to get back to a more positive focus and wise personal-wellness choices at a time when public health restrictions are loosening.

Dr. Wang Xi will present the program on Zoom at 5:30 p.m.

Practicing general medicine, Dr. Xi has cared for Northumberland patients of all ages for seven years. He is also one of two physicians for the Northumberland Family Health Team Primary Care Memory Clinic.

In addition to general medicine, he is knowledgeable and experienced in both inpatient and emergency medicine, which he practices at Northumberland Hills Hospital.

In his talk, Dr. Xi will explore the value of the annual “physical,” delve into screening tests family doctors can conduct, and share lifestyle changes for preventive health and ways to focus on personal wellness. Questions from the audience will also be addressed (and these can be pre-submitted by e-mailing mbhargava@imcare.ca prior to March 16).

Dr. Mukesh Bhargava originated the PACE talks – the acronym stands for Personalized Assessment and Change Education – based on the questions his patients were asking. The Northumberland PACE Talks began in 2018 as free public-education sessions on a broad range of health and wellness topics, consistently drawing large groups of community members with their own questions and perspectives. It alternated locations between Cobourg and Port Hope until (like many public events) it went to a new virtual format as a result of the pandemic.

Each hour-long session consists of a 30-minute talk, a 20-minute question-and-answer period and a short moderator summary.

Bring your questions, your suggestions and your experience, and join what is expected to be another informative discussion.

Pre-registration is required, as space is limited to 300. The event will be hosted through Zoom, and attendees are asked to log on five minutes to the start of the event.

To sign up, visit www.pacetalks.com, where you'll also find video and highlights from many of the previous talks. For those unable to attend, efforts will be made to share a recording of the event afterwards, technology permitting.
