Port Hope athletes honoured

The Municipality of Port Hope held a small celebration Tuesday, in partnership with the Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee, to unveil the new inductees to the Athletic Wall of Honour at the Jack Burger Sports Complex.
The newest plaques on this wall honour Jennifer Mercer, Saul Glober, Ben Sokay and Keith Boundy – each from the Port Hope community and/or having contributed their time and talents to the betterment of sports in Port Hope.
“We have many talented residents in Port Hope, and this is such a special event to honour sport in our community,” Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture Julia Snoek commented in the announcement.
“The Athletic Wall of Honour allows us to pay tribute to members of our community who spend countless hours dedicated to their sport and, in turn, helps us build stronger, happier, healthier and safer communities.”
This is a community-driven initiative that celebrates the achievements of local athletes by preserving the stories and histories. In addition to the plaques, the wall includes a display case of memorabilia highlighting athletic achievements and historic collectibles, as well as an interactive kiosk for research on sports history, articles, digital photos and videos.
The Wall of Honour is now open for submissions. Residents interested in making a nomination for the wall or volunteer section of the kiosk can find more information on the nomination process and candidate criteria at porthope.ca/commemorative-programs
