A chance for members of the public to tour the renovated Cobourg Fire Hall and meet the new fire chief comes on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
Dating from the early 1970s, the fire hall recently underwent renovations after receiving an Ontario Builds Grant that have allowed improvements in operational health and safety through the introduction of a proper decontamination area. This provides firefighters with the ability to remove and wash contaminated fire-fighting gear and to shower immediately. This will reduce fire-related cancers and create a safe work environment.
A proper bunker-gear storage area has been added to ensure gear is stored properly and stands ready for the next emergency. As well, new technology has been introduced that will enhance staff training.
Tours of the updated facility will be guided by members of the Cobourg Fire Department, and the town's new Fire Chief Ellard Beaven will be present to meet everyone.
The fire hall is located at 111 Elgin St. E., and the event runs from 4 to 6 p.m.
