County addresses one-stop resource for housing and homelessness services

By Cecilia Nasmith

Northumberland County announces a new resource for those seeking housing help - the Housing Help Northumberland website, officially launched this week as a central source for information about all housing and homelessness services available to Northumberland residents.

“Coordinated access to services and supports is a priority focus for community partners working together to strengthen the housing and homelessness system in Northumberland,” Community and Social Services Director Lisa Horne said in the announcement.

“There are local resources available to help people at every point along the housing continuum. However, it can be difficult to know where to begin in the search for information.

“Creation of a one-stop website was identified as a key action in the county’s 10-year Housing & Homelessness Plan to simplify this process for our residents. System partners are pleased to make this resource available to the community.”

Northumberland County collaborated with a number of key agencies directly involved with providing services to those experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity to create the Housing Help Northumberland website.

It brings together a range of information, such as:

  • The supports available if a person requires such resources as shelter, housing, food, income assistance or legal assistance, and how to access these supports.

  • Frequently asked questions about housing and homelessness supports.

  • Local, provincial and national housing and homelessness strategies.

  • Details about community partnerships focused on strengthening the system that addresses housing and homelessness.
