Ride For Rebound supports youth services

By Cecilia Nasmith

On May 8, the Ride For Rebound event will bring together 25 avid community cyclists in a fundraiser that also raises awareness of the programs and services offered through Rebound Child and Youth Services Northumberland.

It's a route of more than 100 km., covering Rebound's service areas, with the goal of raising $20,000.

Cobourg Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf developed this initiative in partnership with Rebound to emphasize the ripple effect that these programs and services instill in those involved with this supportive work.

It's also an opportunity for members of the community to get active, experience the beauty of Northumberland County up close, and work alongside Rebound to change the lives of local children and youth.

The announcement noted the long-standing collaborative partnership Rebound enjoys with the Cobourg Police Service, “based on the mutual understanding of the importance of community-based integrated and holistic early interventions for children and families.”

Such early interventions help Rebound change the course of a child's life through mental-health programs, literacy and learning help, youth justice diversion, counselling, mentorship and partnerships. These changed outcomes create long-standing impacts on the lives of youth and families across Northumberland.

Rebound Executive Director Carol Beauchamp expressed her gratitude for Chief VandeGraaf's commitment and leadership in launching the Ride For Rebound.

“The Ride is a chance for community members to learn more about the impact Rebound has throughout Northumberland, and to generate funds that directly support our local children and youth.”

Chief VandeGraaf said he had seen first-hand the difference that early intervention by Rebound can make to the course of a child's life.

“Carol and her team at Rebound succeed in building family capacity and resilient youth,” he stated.

“Every child and family should have the supports they need for a bright future. On May 8, I am riding to support Rebound. I hope everyone will join me by riding, donating or sponsorship. Let's work together to create a bright future for families across Northumberland County.”

You can support the event by registering as one of the 25 riders or by supporting a rider in reaching the $500 fundraising commitment that will be asked of each one.
