A key community asset to those with transportation needs, Community Care Northumberland has stepped up to play a similar role in the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out.

As vaccination plans take shape, the question is often asked – what about members of the community who have no transportation? The answer, issued from CCN yesterday, is that they will ensure these individuals can attend their vaccination appointments at no cost.

“This service is available to any person living in Northumberland County who requires transportation to attend their COVID-19 vaccine appointment,” the announcement said.

“CCN’s specialized transportation vehicles and screened volunteer drivers, including those from YMCA Northumberland’s Operation Red Nose, will provide free, accessible transportation from the individual’s residence to the vaccine clinic and back home.”

CCN Chief Executive Officer Trish Baird said a lack of affordable, reliable transportation should not be a barrier for those who are willing and eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

“Community Care Northumberland is happy to continue supporting the efforts of public health and the needs of our community, and we thank our specialized drivers and volunteer drivers for helping provide this essential service,” Baird said.

Those who have a scheduled COVID-19 vaccination appointment and require transportation can contact the CCN transportation team at 1-866-768-7778 to register and request a ride to their appointment.

CCN is also interested in hearing from anyone who would like to become a volunteer driver to assist in this work. For more information, call 705-653-7476.
