Cobourg Councillor Emily Chorley announced big news at this week's council meeting – the long-awaited survey on the beach goes live Tuesday afternoon on the Engage Cobourg website.
The survey has been drafted by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, Chorley said, designed to get public input into managing the popularity of the beach at Victoria Park.
When council reviewed its options last spring on how to manage traffic at the beach in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic – ultimately deciding to close the beach for the season – much support was expressed for limiting access to Cobourg residents and taxpayers only.
Even before COVID, each summer brought much grousing from these very residents when a beautiful free beach proved an irresistible draw to throngs of people from outside of Northumberland, many of whom (while in town) fail to support local business beyond perhaps grabbing a tankful of gas, leaving nothing behind but garbage.
The survey is your chance to express your opinion.
Chorley said the process only takes about 10 minutes, and it's important to get this input as summer approaches and potentially brings another beach season affected by the pandemic.
“Please share this survey with friends and family,” she urged.
