Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini was joined by the Sounds of the Next Generation as they announced their Ontario Trillium Foundation grant this morning.
The $73,400 grant helps fund the Sounds of the Next Generation (SONG) program SONGtech.
The money comes through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Resilient Communities fund. OTF, who helped fund over 1,300 community projects last year, says the grant will help groups rebuild and recover from the impact of the pandemic.
When the pandemic started, the program was almost cancelled. The funds from OTF help to improve wifi connectivity issues, fund digital music software and the transition of programs to an online platform.
On behalf of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Betty says the grant “helps with the cost of ensuring young people have a chance to learn, create and connect through the music programs they had access to before.”
MPP Piccini, who shared he played saxophone in his youth, emphasizes that connection through music is very important, especially for young kids.
“A future full of colour, a future that is supported by all the incredible work that you (SONG) do.”
