Port Hope announces new emergency notification service

By Cecilia Nasmith

Public safety officials in the Municipality of Port Hope announce that Rave Mobile Emergency Alert is now available to all residents, replacing the previous Rapid Notify system.

This free service allows individuals to receive notifications sent from municipal authorities to stay informed of potentially hazardous situations involving weather, traffic and other emergencies.

Director of Fire and Emergency Services Chief Daniel Smith said in the announcement that this innovation strengthens the municipality's ability to communicate with residents when it matters most.

“This service allows for critical communication with the public, and provides individuals with the information needed to stay safe or take precautions during hazardous or emergency situations,” Smith said.

The switch to Rave Mobile allows residents and travelers to Port Hope to receive alerts via phone, text, and email, and to answer poll questions that will give Port Hope officials critical information during emergency situations. Individuals who are signed up for alerts will receive reliable information, including tailored updates based on their specific needs and geographic location.

The press release stated that Rave Mobile is trusted by thousands of institutions including emergency authorities, businesses, and educational institutions. It sends millions of messages each day during such critical situations as severe weather.
