Though the building department had not yet compiled May statistics in time for Monday's council meeting, Aaron Burchat informed fellow Cobourg councillors that the building department remains busy in spite of the pandemic.
“It's comparable to the previous year's activity in terms of construction value and revenues,” Burchat reported.
“Otherwise, the building department is very active during this very high-demand part of the season, with some very large projects coming to completion – like the TVM-Legion project coming along quite well, which is good to see as it looked like it was slow going at first.”
Burchat did have year-to-date statistics for the fire department through the end of May – 594 calls for service, 199 prevention inspections and activities, and 120 training activities.
“I am very proud of the fire department and their contributions and commitment to maintaining public safety and the best level of service during COVID-19,” he said.
They continue to adjust their planning and activities in response to the changing nature of the emergency, including the sourcing to ensure they have adequate personal protective equipment on hand.
