Kallonakis appointed to Police Services Board

One week after the Municipality of Port Hope announced the appointment of George Kallonakis to its Waterfront and Riverwalk Working Group, the Port Hope Police Services Board has announced his appointment to the board as a provincial appointee for a two-year period.

Kallonakis will replace Dale Chipman, who resigned from the board in October.

Described in last week's announcement as a local entrepreneur and business owner with a background in marketing, promotion and social media, as well as a history of advocacy for environmental initiatives, Kallonakis also has a long history of service – on several municipal committees as well as involvement with Fare Share Food Bank, Northumberland United Way, Green Wood Coalition, 116 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corp and the Canadian Fire Fighters Museum.

Board chair Jeff Gilmer was pleased to hear of the appointment.

“George has been an active member of the Port Hope community for many years and the board is looking forward to working with him in what will be a very busy year,” Gilmer said in the announcement,

The Port Hope Police Services Board is an autonomous civilian body established by provincial legislation to oversee the provision of policing services in the Municipality of Port Hope, including the rural area of the Municipality served by the Northumberland OPP Detachment.

In accordance with Section 27 (6) of the Police Services Act, the board is comprised of five members – the head of council (or designate), one member of council, one municipal representative (who is neither a council member nor a municipal employee) and two provincial appointees
