Cobourg issues tree pick-up and snow-clearing reminders
By Cecilia Nasmith
The Town of Cobourg Public Works Division has issued a press release with details of this year's Christmas tree pick-up, as well as a reminder of snow clearing safety rules, bylaw and etiquette.
Residents who would like their Christmas trees collected are asked to have them at curbside by 7 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11 (or the night before). All metal, ornaments, tree stands and tinsel should be removed, and the tree should not be wrapped in plastic.
Residents are reminded that there may be pick-up delays, depending on weather conditions.
As for snow clearing, the Town of Cobourg is responsible for snow removal and maintenance during the winter months to ensure the safety of all residents, including snowplowing roadways and salting or sanding in response to icy conditions on municipal roads.
To ensure everyone remains safe and the town's snow-clearing vehicles can operate safely, they remind everyone of certain safety rules.
Keep the sidewalk in front of your home clear of ice and snow within 24 hr. of a snowfall (as per Bylaw 081-2014).
Do not plow or shovel snow on to any roadway (as per the Highway Traffic Act).
Be safe around snowplows by leaving space when driving.
Keep your gas meters clear of snow and ice.
Do not shovel or blow snow onto or around fire hydrants.
Clear snow and ice from fire escapes, exit doors and other emergency-exit points.
Place garbage and recycling where it can be clearly seen and safely collected.
Do not park on the street overnight. Vehicles left on roadways may be fined or towed.
