COVID fails to stall development in Cobourg

A year of COVID has not stalled development in the Town of Cobourg, Councillor Nicole Beatty reported at Monday's council meeting.

Beatty listed 13 active subdivisions in some capacity, with an additional 16 files for site plan applications (and six more currently being reviewed).

Applications for a demolition permit have been submitted for 185 Division St. and 9 Albert St. - longer-term residents would think of thos addresses as Dr. Thomas Hawke's veterinary practice and the former Cogeco building respectively. The idea is to prepare the site for future development.

Councillor Aaron Burchat added some statistics from the building department.
For the month of October, he said, 11 building permits were issued (three of them for dwelling units), representing an estimated construction value of more than $1.6-million.

For the year to date, ending Oct. 31, 349 building permits have been issued (122 of them for dwelling units), representing an estimated construction value of more than $29.5-million – and bringing in more than $367,000 in fees to the town.
