Though Cobourg's winter parking bylaw has been in effect since Nov. 1 and runs through March 31, Councillor Brian Darling said that compliance is not universal.
The bylaw bans parking on the town's main arterial and collector roads between 2 and 7 a.m. during this time period, Darling said. However, a recent tour of roads prior to 7 a.m. found 25 to 30 vehicles still on the road. A subsequent tour still found 15 to 20 vehicles.
Darling reminds everyone that the fine for not complying with the bylaw is $35, and that there's another risk – should a car be deemed to be obstructing snow-removal efforts, he said, it can be towed at the owner's expense.
The councillor also reminds everyone of the municipal sidewalk-clearing policy, where owners of buildings are required to remove snow and ice from the sidewalks in front of their property as often as necessary – and by midnight of the day following a storm.
