Sports Hall of Fame is now on line

The Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame has announced the launch of its website.

While display space may be limited, a visit to www.cdshf.ca provides historical information about sports, sporting events, athletes, builders and sports facilities in Cobourg, Alderville First Nation and the townships of Alnwick-Haldimand, Cramahe and Hamilton.

Users can also view more than 1,000 pieces of memorabilia, read numerous stories of the fascinating history of local sports, watch Galloping Ghosts football games from the 1950s and listen to interviews with sports figures from the area.

“There is so much sports history in our area that the project just kept getting bigger and bigger,” website committee chair Liz Basinger said in the announcement.

“We finally decided to just launch the website and then keep adding content.”

The website also provides information about the Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame and how to submit a nomination for induction – with the dinner in connection with the 2020 induction (which was delayed by COVID-19) now postponed to June 19, 2021.

As announced in March, Gord Brooks, Neil Cane, Reverend Dr. Kevin Fast, Margie Mathews, Dan Milligan, Ken Petrie, Fred Simpson and Clarke Sommerville are the 2020 nominees. Their formal induction dinner will take place June 19 at the Best Western in Cobourg.

It was further announced that there will be no selection of 2021 nominees.

Application forms for 2022 Sports Hall of Fame nominees will be accepted until September 30, 2021, and new inductees will be announced in March 2022. Applications received for the 2021 nominations will be included for consideration for the 2022 nominations.

See the website for induction policies and nomination information. www.cdshf.ca
