Cobourg will apply for Safe Restart Funding

By Cecilia Nasmith

Cobourg council this week directed Treasurer Ian Davey to apply for funding under Phase 2 of the Federal-provincial Safe Restart Agreement.
A letter from Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark said that the fund provides $4-billion in emergency assistance for municipalities responding to the coronavirus pandemic, a follow-up on Phase 1 (which provided $695-million to ensure municipalities could continue vital services).

The deadline to apply is Oct. 30, Mayor John Henderson pointed out.

“The time line is very short, so I appreciate Mr. Davey taking the time to bring this forward,” Deputy Mayor Suzanne Seguin said.

“We did get a fair amount the first phase, so we hope we can get more to offset our COVID impact.”

Application will be made subject to Davey's assessment ans analysis of funding guidelines for future assistance needed to address expenses and lost revenues for the town due to COVID-19.
