County wants your infrastructure input
By Cecilia Nasmith
With asset-management plans being formulated to prioritize investments in local infrastructure, Northumberland County is seeking feedback from members of the public on the current condition of such county assets as roads, bridges, culverts, retaining walls and storm sewers (along with expectations for future maintenance and renewal).
Well-planned and well-maintained infrastructure is crucial to municipal-service delivery and a thriving, sustainable community. Aging assets, along with the impacts of population and climate change, present challenges that must be addressed by asset-management planning to make strategic evidence-based decisions about infrastructure investments.
Northumberland County began developing a formal asset-management system in 2015, and has been moving forward with phased implementation – aligning with direction from the province that all municipalities have a comprehensive asset-management plan in place by July 1, 2024.
