Arson Investigation In Cobourg

On Tuesday, August 27, 2019 between 12:15 am and 12:45 am someone lit fire to a recycling bin at the curb in the area of William Street and Harden Street. Cobourg fire extinguished the fire, but it caused extensive damage to a hydro pole and it will require replacing.

While investigating the fire, officers were alerted to another small fire further south on William Street near Ontario Street. Officers discovered another recycling bin placed at the curb, had also been ignited but extinguished by Cobourg fire services.

Again, while on scene at the second fire, officers were alerted to a third fire at the Cobourg Public Library. Officers attended and quickly extinguished the fire that had been lit in a garbage can near the building. This fire also caused damage to the brick and electrical outlets on the wall of the library. 

Cobourg Police Service Forensic Identification Officer attended and examined the scene and collected evidence.

The Cobourg Police Service have canvassed local business’s for video but are also looking for assistance from any member of the public who may have video surveillance or witnessed anyone walking on William Street between King and Elgin Street between midnight and 1:30 am today.
