On Saturday, June 22, Northumberland Makers welcome both members of the general public and special guests to their first-anniversary celebration of the MakerLab located at the Venture 13 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre.
Northumberland Makers, established in 2015, is a community of creators, innovators and makers who strive to improve equity of access to tools, technology and education. Now an anchor community partner in Venture 13, which opened 13 months ago, they are enjoying a transformational partnership with the centre that serves as its home base.
“In our first year in the MakerLab, we have been busy solidifying ideas and mapping out programming, and have celebrated many successes, connections and partnerships which will continue to grow as we enter our second year,” Makers president (and Venture13 board-of-partners director) Phil Mandryk said in the Venture 13 press release.
“We are excited to unveil new technologies, and pleased to launch MakerLab TV. This platform will allow us to keep Northumberland County informed in local hi-tech innovations.:
Over the past year, the MakerLab has seen the collision of the entrepreneurial and maker communities to create a spot for both entrepreneurs and the curious to connect, learn and teach.
The press release noted that the Northumberland Makers educators adhere to the STEAM approach – S for sciences (both physical and social), T for technology, E for engineering, A for arts and M for mathematics.
It's a place where curiosity regularly matches up with expertise, and everyone is invited to help celebrate June 22.
Drop in to Venture 13 (739 D'Arcy St., Cobourg) between 1 and 4 p.m. for tours and the chance to learn more about the programming and initiative going on. Meet interesting makers and witness some amazing demonstrations, such as the live production of the new MakerLab TV.
