Port Hope 2020 budget is on the council agenda

By Cecilia Nasmith

The Municipality of Port Hope has announced that the proposed 2020 budget will be presented at the next regular council meeting on Dec. 17, starting at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers.

The Budget Committee deliberated in open public meetings Dec. 9 and 11 to review and discuss the 2020 draft financial plan. It was passed and, in accordance with the procedural bylaw, will be brought forward to council for final approval.

The proposed budget represents a 2.5% levy-requirement increase after growth, and includes capital projects and operating items – such as Lakeshore Road reconstruction, rural road resurfacing, designs for an addition to the Town Park Recreation Centre to accommodate a new seniors' centre, a splash pad, and the design for renovations to the Welcome fire station.

The proposed budget documents – including comment forms as well as the recordings of both budget-committee meetings can be reviewed at porthope.ca/budget.

Residents can submit their feedback until 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16.
