County urges patience on yard waste

By Cecilia Nasmith

High volumes of leaf and yard waste over days of windy, stormy weather (and seasonal clean-up) is creating delays in curbside collections – but Northumberland County advises residents that these collections are continuing regardless.

“Residents are advised to please continue leaving these materials at the curd, if they have not yet been collected, as collection will continue until all yard waste has been removed,” the press release said.

Director of Transportation, Waste and Facilities Mo Pannu extended apologies for the inconvenience o the delayed collections, and appreciation for everyone's patience as they work on the backlog.

“Crews have been working additional hours and on weekends to deal with the increased volumes, and will continue to work hard to get everything collected from curbside,” Pannu said in the press release.

“We encourage residents to continue placing their yard waste out on their designated set-out dates, as our teams strive to get back on track – but with the understanding that collection is currently delayed by a full week in comparison to the usual schedule.”
