County advises of Northumberland County Forest trail closures

By Cecilia Nasmith

Northumberland County reminds members of the public of upcoming seasonal trail closures in the Northumberland County Forest.

From Nov. 1 to May 15, motorized vehicles are prohibited on all trails.

From Dec. 1 to March 31, Beagle Club trails are reserved for cross-country skiing only.

As well, during this winter, all Beagle Club trails located west of Beagle Club Road (including north of Dunbar Road) will be temporarily closed on weekdays for timber-harvest operations. You can check on updates on the timber-harvest closure schedule at Northumberland.ca/Trails.

The closures are necessary to maintain the health of the forest and trails, natural and cultural heritage manager Todd Farrell said in the bounty press release.

“To ensure the community is able to enjoy the forest for years to come, we ask residents to help us preserve our trails by limiting trail usage during wet weather,” Farrell said.

“This helps prevent severe trail damage that can be dangerous for other trail users, costly to repair and can impede emergency access.”
