Councillor praises Cobourg's windstorm response

By Cecilia Nasmith

Councillor Emily Chorley complimented the Town of Cobourg on how it addressed the windstorm that blew up last week pretty well as soon as the Halloween trick-or-treaters made it home.

Chorley said at Tuesday's council meeting that winds had included gusts of up to 95 KPH.

“In Victoria Park, we lost two trees and several were damaged. We also lost one lamppost. In Peace Park, we lost a large aspen tree. In Sinclair Park, a big willow lost limbs,” she listed.

“Staff made a significant effort to get it cleaned up. A visual inspection was made on all roads and parks, and 24 work orders were issued.

“As a result of staff efforts, no high-risk items were left over the weekend, and crews had things cleaned up in two days.”

“That was a heck of a storm that night for sure,” Mayor John Henderson agreed.
