A $90,000 major initiative to attract new businesses to Cobourg’s downtown was launch this morning.

Cobourg Mayor Gil Brocanier told a small crowd gathered in Victoria Hall the town has it all when it comes to a variety of local shops and services, but it can always welcome more.

He said the marketing strategy includes a new website filled with promotional videos, testimonials, and images to attract new businesses or those looking to expand their existing businesses.

The project was the brainchild of a coalition of organizations led by the town, which included the Downtown Business Improvement Area, the Northumberland Central Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown Business Coalition, among others.

The group hopes to attract everyone attention through a dominant display at the old Sarby’s store across from Victoria Hall on King Street, where a sign, along with huge posters promoting potential locations.


Downtown Cobourg has 225 existing businesses that generate about $400 million in commerce each year.
