Assault in Port Hope

A 35 year old man faces charges after Port Hope Police were called to a disturbance in the Hope Street/Peter Street area shortly after 7p.m.

Police forced entry into the second floor of a resident where they confronted a man who is alleged to have smashed holes in the walls and doors with a table leg. He also got into an argument with the home owner and another tenant.

The person was taken into custody when police saw the man allegedly smashing holes into the walls and doors during an argument with the tenant. He also allegedly punched the tenant in the face.

Joel Bemma, of no fixed address, is charged with assault causing bodily harm and mischief. He is in custody pending a bail hearing.
