Cobourg Driver Ends Up In Lake Ontario
A listener has provided 89.7 FM with a news tip that on Saturday afternoon, a person driving a pick-up truck south on Ontario Street in Cobourg accelerated heavily smashed through the 4" x 4" wood barriers, took out a park bench, rolled down the full length of the north/south section of the boardwalk, crossed the sand and rocks on the west beach and ended up being forced to come to a stop by the water in the Lake.
Emergency vehicles responded and neighbours ran out to help before they arrived.
Cobourg Police this morning confirmed they had responded to a single motor vehicle collision where a vehicle had driven into Lake Ontario.
The driver was transported to the Northumberland Hills hospital with minor injuries and has been charged with Careless Driving.
According to our listener, the situation could easily have resulted in severe injury for children playing in the neighbourhood, for pedestrians on the boardwalk, and for sun-worshippers lying on the west beach.
