Deputy Mayor: Adam Bureau

Adam Bureau is seeking election as Deputy Mayor of the Town of Cobourg, bringing eight years of experience on Cobourg Town Council and a long record of community involvement.

First elected to Council in 2018, Adam has served two terms representing Cobourg residents. During his time on Council, his responsibilities have included Arts, Culture and Tourism, and he has worked closely with local organizations, businesses and community groups on issues affecting the town.

Adam currently serves as Chair of the Cobourg Police Service Board. During this term, he has focused on greater transparency and public accountability, including opening Board meetings to the public and livestreaming them. He was also part of the committee responsible for selecting Cobourg’s new Chief of Police, Chris Leather.

Public safety, responsible municipal spending, downtown revitalization, infrastructure and protecting Cobourg’s unique character are among the issues Adam continues to focus on. He believes the municipality must also work effectively with Northumberland County and the provincial and federal governments when challenges extend beyond the Town’s jurisdiction.

Adam’s connection to downtown Cobourg goes back well before his election to Council. He became involved with the Downtown Business Improvement Area in 2015 and later served as its Chair. As a councillor, he has continued to advocate for a vibrant and safe downtown and for supporting Cobourg’s local businesses, arts, culture and tourism sectors.

Adam believes elected officials should be accessible, willing to listen and prepared to work with people who may not always agree with them.

As a candidate for Deputy Mayor, Adam is putting his record, experience and priorities before Cobourg residents and asking voters for the opportunity to continue serving the community in a new role.
