"Jeff Wheeldon has lived in Brighton for a decade, and served on council since 2022. He is happily married with two children, and can often be found in a bookstore, hobby shop, or walking downtown. He holds a Master of Arts degree, and has a varied resume with experience in higher education, real estate and planning, systems thinking, and advocacy and community development.
This term Jeff completed a Diploma in Municipal Administration to become more effective in his council role. He co-founded the Northumberland Inter-Municipal Task Force on Housing and Homelessness, chairing it for its first year. He also served as Chair of the Brighton Homelessness Task Force, the Strategic Plan Review Committee, the Brighton Landfill Liaison Committee, and the Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee, and is currently Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Lower Trent Conservation Authority. He further served as a municipal appointee on the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee, the Accessibility Advisory Committee, and the Board of Directors of Quinte Transit; and served Tiny Homes Northumberland and the Northumberland County Food Policy Council as a volunteer.
Jeff championed the Integrated Community Sustainability Plan, now adopted, and contributed significantly to the Land Banking initiative. The implementation of these initiatives will be one of the major themes of the coming term, along with finding other ways to enhance affordability, resiliency, and quality of life in Brighton. Brighton has a significant infrastructure gap, and closing it will require hard conversations locally and recruiting financial support from outside our community. Jeff also prioritizes the political and emotional climate of the community: global instability and toxic politics puts us all on edge, and change is difficult at the best of times, so communication and meaningful engagement with residents is more important than ever."
