Keep fire safety in mind when decorating for Christmas
Avoid overloading outlets – Plugging too many lights and decorations into one outlet can overload circuits and cause overheating. Use surge protectors or power bars with built-in circuit breakers.
Be sure to keep all your decorations (especially flammable ones like garlands or paper ornaments) well away from such heat sources as fireplaces, radiators and candles. And don't forget the year-round fire-safety essentials.
Working smoke alarms – Install smoke alarms on every level of your home and outside all sleeping areas. Test them monthly to ensure they are working correctly.
Home escape plan – Develop and practice a home fire-escape plan with your family, ensuring everyone knows two ways out of every room and a designated meeting place outside.
