Time to show your solidarity with a purple scarf

This annual campaign has worked to raise awareness of the issue since 2013. In the year since the last campaign, the Ontario Association of Interval and Transition Houses has reported more than 52 femicides. Last year in Ontario, on average, a woman or child died due to gender-based violence every six days.

These femicides are preventable tragedies which devastate communities and families,” the press release said.

Throughout November, communities across Ontario will be coming together to show their support for GBV survivors and their children, as well as for the organizations (like Cornerstone) that provide resources and safety.

And the purple scarves signal a commitment to ending violence in our community, as well as letting survivors they know they are not alone.
