Challenging weather conditions and the proximity to Highway 45 are reasons for delays in installing steel sheet piling for the Baltimore Creek Retaining Wall Restoration Project.

“Crews are nearing completion of the permanent steel sheet pile installation, which will stabilize the embankment to grade level with the highway. As we approach winter weather, we are targeting mid-January to complete the pile installation and remove the temporary signal lights that currently support alternating traffic lanes,” said a spokesperson from Northumberland County in an emailed statement.

Crews may return in the early spring to finish any remaining pile installation work before. In-water work to repair the stone edge of the creek will begin shortly after. The project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2025.
