Encampment and Warming Space concerns brought to Cobourg Council
By Cecilia Nasmith
Just because the encampment at the former Brookside Youth Centre has been emptied and the new Northumberland County shelter location at 310 Division St. has opened does not mean the two issues do not continue to come up at Cobourg council meetings.
At Wednesday's meeting of council's Community Services, Protection and Economic Development Committee, updates on both show that problems are not exactly in the past.
Municipal Clerk Brent Larmer said the town continues to stay in touch with Infrastructure Ontario, which is still in possession of the property, and the province continues to offer reassurances that it will be cleaned up.
Meanwhile, Mayor Lucas Cleveland reports neighbours of 310 Division who can't sleep night after night because of activities that go on into the wee hours.
He urges anyone with a complaint to contact bylaw enforcement at 905-372-8380.
He also suggests anyone with complaints to back them up with pictures and other evidence, if possible.
