Transition House Emergency Shelter – which provides short-term emergency housing for Northumberland adults – announces plans to undergo an organization stabilization strategy, focusing on five key milestones to help rebuild the organization to serve the community better.
Over the next five months, this plan will focus on:
Board recruitment for additional expertise
Recruitment of a new Executive Director for organizational leadership
Establishing a culture of wellness and engagement for the dedicated and committed staff team
Participating in a service review and internal capacity exercise
Making a commitment to community collaboration
The announcement said that working through these milestones “will land the organization in a better place to provide services to alleviate people's immediate housing crisis as a first step to being re-housed.”
“I am excited to be a part of the stabilization of Transition House,” board chair Rev. Neil Ellis said.
“I believe this organization has the potential to be a critical resource within the community.
“While Transition House has struggled in the past, I know with our new plan forward that we will be able to right the ship and continue to serve our community and the many individuals who rely on us.”
Board recruitment is underway – in addition to Ellis, Transition House is also thrilled to welcome Habitat For Humanity Executive Director Meaghan Macdonald and Lester and Associates principal Alison Lester. All bring experience and expertise in the field of housing and homelessness, community connection and understanding, as well as legal acumen.
