Hugs In Brighton aimed at Ukraine

By Cecilia Nasmith

Hugs In Brighton is the name of a July 7 event with four speakers who will provide first-hand insight into the situation in war-torn Ukraine.

The 7 p.m. event is hosted by Trinity-St. Andrew's United Church (56 Prince Edward St.), featuring two speakers with recent experience providing medical support in Poland for displaced Ukrainians and two Brighton residents on their experiences hosting Ukrainian families.
Cobourg residents Yvonne Kay and Dr. Maria Marszal – both born and raised in Poland – will share their experiences of going back home this spring to work with Ukrainians forced to flee their homes after the Russian invasion.

Stacey Martin and May Haslam opened up their hearts and their homes to Ukrainian families, and will share their experiences along the way.

For those who wish to show their support, a donation plate will be at the door as you enter the presentation.

After the talks, everyone will move to the church hall for cold drinks, chance to meet the family from Ukraine and socialize, and an informal sharing of information and experiences – particularly regarding potential opportunities to host Ukrainians. If you are interested, this is the perfect opportunity to learn more.

The presentation is open to everyone, and a Zoom link can be obtained by emailing HUGSinBrighton@gmail.com
