Northumberland County Warden Bob Crate announced at the beginning of Monday’s Community Health Committee meeting that in solidarity with Ukraine, County headquarters will be lit up with Ukraine’s national colours this week.
During the meeting, he delivered the following statement regarding recent events;
“Northumberland County joins the chorus of local, national, and international voices in denouncing the unprovoked attacks on sovereign Ukraine.”
“On behalf of Council, staff and our community, our thoughts and prayers are with the Ukrainian people as they face of this shocking aggression, and with global leaders as they advance a unified response. We extend our sincerest wishes for a swift and peaceful resolution to this conflict.
“As an expression of Northumberland’s solidarity with, and support for, the people of Ukraine and our local Ukrainian community, County headquarters will be lit up in the national colours of Ukraine throughout this week.”
“Furthermore, the Government of Canada has announced that it will match every donation made by individual Canadians to the Canadian Red Cross between February 24, 2022, and March 18, 2022, up to a maximum of $10 million, in response to this evolving humanitarian crisis.”
